Description
Pre-1880 Ratchet type Transom window opener - long rod with handle which engages with the ratchet.I have now seen two of these in the past several years - very rare - mid 1870's Transom Window Rod Opener Mechanism RARE Hardware - this is the lower arm which is used when opening the window by twisting the rod and engage or release the upper part of the rod from the ratchet mechanism. This is what allows the window to open or close.
This listing is for the long lower arm only. See all of the pix that I was able to obtain from a vintage 1870's home that had such a mechanism.
I recovered and restored as much as I could of the finish. Mounting plate and loop that your hand engages is non-metallic (brass). Item may need a little TLC to smooth it all out.
Sold as-is. Additional pix from 1888/90 hardware catalog may help identify the item and application as well. Possibly REIHER's transom mechanism. See last pix based on recent search of vintage catalog images - Dunham and Carrigan, 1888 San Francisco, Ca. You tell me if this is correct.
Thanks for looking!
